Blog- wb 21st June

Let's get straight into this week's blog....

This week we have continued our topic learning about the seaside with a focus on lighthouses and boats.

We started the week by looking at different local lighthouses and sharing our experiences of seeing them. Lots of us have seen lighthouses before but for those who haven't we enjoyed looking through lots of pictures. We noticed a pattern... lots of lighthouses are red and white. Can you remember why?

Afterwards we enjoyed making our own lighthouses using plastic bottles and various materials. Thank you to those that brought in plastic bottles, the children LOVED being creative!

Can you remember what lighthouses are used for? And why they are important? Thats right- to stop boats crashing into the rocks. This week we enjoyed carrying out an experiment and made our own boats. We wanted to find out which material would work best to make our boat float. Some materials we used made our boats sink. We used plastic, cardboard, paper and material. We found out that are boats sunk if they had holes in! This made us laugh a lot!! Can you remember which material was best to help our boats float?

In our mathematical learning we continued to practise touch counting shells and we enjoyed using shells for addition calculations too.

In continuous provision the children enjoyed squishing, pressing, pushing, rolling and squeezing play doh. Having a doh available daily will greatly benefit their fine motor skills. Maybe you could make some play doh this weekend? I'd love to see your creations on your journal.

They also enjoyed building structures with Lego, cutting and sticking, reading and talking about stories and so much more.

Next week we will be learning more about under the sea. We can't wait!

A reminder to parents that the best place for your child if they're poorly is at home resting. We have had lots of children off this week and have recently sent children home. Please take care.

Have a lovely weekend- Miss F
