Blog- wb 7th June

Welcome back everyone, I hope you had a lovely week at home and you're ready for the last 5 weeks of term. This is a busy but exciting half term! Over the next couple of weeks, some of us get ready to transition up to Reception. We will spend lots of time talking about our new teachers and our new classrooms in preparation for roll up day on Tuesday 6th July. This is a very special day where we spend a full day in our new class. It would be really useful for you to talk to your child about moving and how exciting it will be. For some children this can be quite a daunting change and so making the move as exciting as possible is really important and we will do our best to prepare the children for this.

For those staying in Nursery, we spend lots of time welcoming our new friends that will join us in September.

Over the next few weeks, our topic will be centered around Summer time with links to the seaside and then under the sea. Before we start our topic work next week, this week we have been learning about initial sounds. Initial sounds are the first sounds in words. E.g. a for apple or d for dog. We have particularly enjoyed playing eye spy in the garden. Lots of us have found this quite tricky so practice this as much as possible. This is a very important pre writing skill so will be particularly useful for those moving to Reception. The children have had lots of fun playing various games to help them build their understanding of initial sounds.

In our mathematical work we have been practicing number recognition and formation. We have enjoyed writing numbers with our fingers in glitter, using chalk, pens, pencils, outside on the ground.... numbers everywhere!

Although a shorter week, we have been busy as always and it's been great to have some nicer weather. A big thank you to those that have brought in sun hats and sun cream. Please remember to bring a sun hat everyday so that your child can play out for longer. If they haven't got a hat, they won't be able to play out for long periods of time.

Don't forget to bring in a rock next week as part of Swansfields arts mark project as we will be painting and decorating our rocks. If you want to find out more please see the school summer newsletter.

Have a great weekend
