Blog - 1st July

Hello everyone,

We hope that you enjoyed your extended weekend on Monday.

In Apple class this week we've been discussing and learning about rockpools with our focus story being 'Sharing a shell.' We started our discussions with a few questions, our questions were
'I wonder what it’s like to share a shell…'
'I wonder what adventures this shell has been on… what might it have seen?'

and from Sally and the Limpet story 'should Sally have pulled the limpet from the rock pool?'

This created many whole class discussions and really got the children thinking about different possible answers. It allowed us to think about new vocabulary that we have been taught this half term and it allowed us to develop our speaking and listening skills.

Our key vocabulary for this week was: waves, shore, tide, rock pools, limpets, muscles, crabs.

We also made repeating patterns using seaside treasures. The children's are really establishing the A,B,A,B patterns and are moving onto A,B,B,A patterns. We used a variety of items to help us do this (shells, rocks, large clam shells etc.) Maybe you could have a go at this at home over the weekend.

Outside we've been making our own rockpools, by using puddles, rocks and tyres - the children had great fun thinking and planning was to keep the water in the puddles!

We hope you have a great weekend and that this rain goes away!
