Blog - 8th April

Hello there,
Well we've made it to the Easter holidays!
It has been a tricky few weeks in Apple class with lots of children and staff being poorly but let's hope that after the holidays we'll all be fit and ready for a healthy summer packed full of learning and fun.

This week we concluded our thinking about people who help us and we were so excited to have Philip, a PCSO, to join us in Apple Class. Philip was great at telling us all about his job, he answered our questions and showed us his police car. We learnt that being a police officer is not just about 'catching people', it's about helping in so many different situations - when there has been an accident, when there is bad weather or when lots of people are meeting together for an event, just to name a few. Philip showed us his radio and we even heard him speaking to the control room in Ponteland. He showed us his notebook where he writes all of the important information about the jobs he's doing. We were fascinated to know that his fluorescent yellow vest has special hard plates in it to keep him safe. We loved hearing the siren and seeing the flashing lights of the police car.

In the rest of our learning this week, we have been thinking about the celebration of Easter. So much of our curriculum involves thinking about things in the context of our own lives and then we begin to look outwards beyond this. We talked about the ways that we enjoy celebrating Easter - we are looking forward to visits from the Easter Bunny, having egg hunts and special time with our families. We found out that Christians celebrate Jesus rising from the dead at Easter and the children listened so well as Claire told the Easter story. Claire told us about the significance of the cross and we were then fascinated to see this on the hot cross buns that we love to eat. Indeed, on Thursday, we had a hot cross bun party and we talked about the Easter story as we enjoyed these delicious treats. We also learnt how to spread butter with a knife as we prepared our snack.

We have had great fun doing an Easter egg number hunt outside. The children are becoming very familiar with numbers 1-10 and it's great to see them being able to order these too.

Special mention must go to Annabelle who is our Apple Class Gold Certificate winner this term. We only give one of these awards out a term and to get it is a very special thing. Annabelle has grown in confidence so much this term and we are very proud of the busy learner she has blossomed into.

We do hope that everyone has a very enjoyable holiday - let's hope for some sunshine and plenty of opportunity to get out and about.

See you on Monday 25th April!

Best wishes,
