Blog 11th February

Well... what a very busy and fun week in Apple Class!

Our children have been looking closely at gritters and snow ploughs and talking about the different parts and key features. We watched a fantastic video which explained this very clearly to the children - so over the weekend ask them what they know about the gritter.

Some questions... Why is it yellow? Where does the salt come out? What does the plough do at the front? Where does the driver sit? Why do we need grit on the road?

From this, the children made their own junk model gritter and were able to tell an adult how the model worked.

In other areas of learning, the children explore the tough tray full of flour and salt (to begin the week) and ended it with being sand. This had vehicles and gritters in - so the children had great fun using language to act out being a gritter driver!

They made their own snow plough using cut and stick materials - you might already have these at home! Our children really love to share their learning with you and get extremely excited to take home whatever they've made.

In our outdoor environment we've been making obstacle courses and practising the skill of hopping. The children really had so much fun 'hopping' around the yard and making sure they didn't fall onto the equipment. They negotiated with
space well.

In musical apples this week we continued with our penguin fun! We hopped, waddled and we slid. We got out the P.E box and enjoyed pretending it was an iceberg. We waddled along and dived off the end into the cold water. We also enjoyed singing our penguin songs. Why not ask your little one to sing you 'I'm a little penguin.'

As you will probably already know next Friday is our last day of this half term. The friends have organised an event where children can come to school wearing their PJ's if they'd like to for £1 - this is for Apple Class too.

School will re open on Monday 28th February.

Take care,
