Blog 6- wb 21st October
Our last week of half term has been super busy with lots of Autumn learning. Our Autumn focus this week has been centered around hedgehogs. We have learnt some really interesting facts. Why not see if your child can remember anything? We learnt that hedgehogs like to eat slugs and worms, but, they do not like to drink milk. It makes them very poorly. We learnt that they gather their food during Autumn and hibernate in Winter time. Can you remember what hibernate means? The children found it interesting that baby hedgehogs are called hoglets and we had a go at making some out of play doh.
To help consolidate our learning we enjoyed making hedgehog shelters with leaves and logs outside, we enjoyed making hedgehog collages using materials and we loved singing some songs to help us remember our interesting facts.
In our creative work we enjoyed recreating Vincent Van Gogh's "Mulberry Tree" picture. We looked closely at the picture and talked about the colours we needed to use and how we were going to create the effect of the leaves. The children did a great job at looking at the picture and thinking about how they were going to put the marks onto paper.
Our story of the week has been Leaf Man by Lois Elhert. The children enjoyed moving like Autumn leaves and creating their own laminated leaf men, women and animals. You can now see these on display in the classroom.
The children have also enjoyed leaf printing outside and mark making on big rolls of paper.
After a very busy half term the children definitely deserve a rest! The children have all settled in well and now understand the daily routines. Have a great half term and I look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 5th November.
