Blog week ending 1.7.22

A busy week in Pear class once again....

This week in our maths work we have spent lots of time recapping counting in 2's as some of us found this tricky last week.  Please continue to practise this regularly whenever you can at home.

We have also enjoyed learning about doubles this week. We wanted the children to confidently explain that doubles means twice as many. Lots of us quickly recognised that when we double we use the same number/amount twice! We had fun playing lots of doubles games. We rolled a dice and made the double using numicon and we even played make my double. This game involved one person choosing a number between 1 and 10 and then quickly making it using loose parts (this was hidden from a friend so they couldn't see which number they were making). After making the number, they quickly showed their friend who had to "make the double". We had lots of fun with this!

In our topic work we have continued to learn about the seaside this week and we had fun testing out materials to see which would be the best to make a bathing suit (for a dip in the sea). We used the vocabulary absorb, waterproof and repel! We had fun wrapping our barbies in various materials and dunking them in water! Can you ask your child which material was best?  We then took this learning further to design and make our own boats, using materials which were waterproof, rather than ones that absorbed the water.  We're looking forward to testing these next week to see if they will float!

In our PSHE this week, we have continued learning about "Changing Me" and focussed on the life cycle of humans. We began by looking at one of our favourite stories: The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  We read the story and talked about how the caterpillar changes.  We then talked about some of the changes humans go through and how we have all changed since we were babies.  It was lovely to hear the children talk about how things they do and like now is different, as well as how we have changed physically.  We reinforced that it is okay to change and we all change at different rates.

As usual the children have been practising handwriting, reading, sports day races and so much more!

Another busy week had by all with another busy week next week...

Don't forget Wednesday is roll up day! A chance for the children to visit their new class and meet their new teachers... it is so exciting!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone.
