Blog week ending 27.5.22

Another week flown by.... I can't believe we are at half term already! When we return to school we only 7 weeks left until the summer holidays. What a quick year this has been.

In RWI we continue to practise "fred in our head" and speedy reading. Ensuring the children have quick and fluent phonic skills is so important so we always focus on ensuring the children have secure sound recognition to read speedily.

In maths we continue to consolidate our number knowledge within 20.  Lots of us are confident at counting and building numbers to 20 but need more practice with number recognition. Please keep practicing this at home.

Our topic work this week has been all about the Queen. We started the week by listening to the story The Queens Knickers. In the story, the Queens knicker trunk has gone missing. So the children had fun creating wanted posters to help find the knickers. They had to write some sentences to describe the missing knickers. It was a very fun story!

As the week went by we learned some interesting things about the Queen including her age, her age when she became Queen, where she lives, what she wears, her favourite animal, what her job is and so much more. We watched a clip of the Queen's coronation as well as listening to the music written especially for the coronation.  We've enjoyed making our outdoor area "fit for a queen" too with weeding and planting.

We also looked closely at Windsor Castle and compared this to Alnwick Castle. The children noticed that there were similarities (towers, turrets etc) but there were also lots of differences (size, surroundings etc). We had fun drawing, collaging and creating our own castles.

In preparation for our party this week we have been busy making fruit scones. Team 1 weighed out all of the ingredients, team 2 combined and prepared the dough and team 3 rolled and cut the scones.  They were then decorated with cream and jam. Well done everyone, what a team effort!

On Friday we had a fantastic Jubilee party with our homemade fruit scones, jubilee flags and decorations. We had lots of fun playing games outside too! It was great to see everyone in red, white and blue! Enjoy our pictures below from our celebration!

Happy half term everyone, have a restful week and we will see you back on Monday 6th.
