Day 1 (2019)

We’ve had a great first day!

After a rather mucky start thanks to a rather badly placed pile of dog muck on the Avenue, we got away in good spirits.

We arrived at York Minster around 11.30am and had a really informative tour around the cathedral. We were all particularly impressed with the amazing stained glass windows.

Next was our most energetic task of the day – climbing the minster tower.  Although this was no easy job, the views from the top made every step worthwhile.

We were more than ready for our packed lunches which were waiting for us when we had our feet back on solid ground.

A tour of the city by foot came after lunch in a ‘Horrible Histories’ style with our tour guides Lord De Vose and Smedley.  The children particularly enjoyed the gorier side of their stories – a highlight being the rather nasty symptoms of plague!

York Dungeon was our next stop and this was not for the faint hearted!  However, the children looked out for each other and didn’t let the ghosts, ghouls and gory tales get the better of them.

We were all relieved to get to Pizza Express for a well deserved dinner before heading back to the coach for the drive to Manchester. We chilled out to ‘Pets at Home’ as we journeyed.

The children are now settled in their rooms and will hopefully get a good night’s sleep in preparation for tomorrow.
