Today Ash Class and Beech Class joined up to have a campfire.
The children needed to collect tinder for the fire, first they needed find dry sticks the same size as their little finger.
To check the sticks were dry the children to needed to bend the stick and listen for the 'Crack'.
Next the children needed to gather sticks the same thickness as their thumb.
We discussed fire safety and how we move safely around the fire circle area.
I showed the children how to light a fire with a flint and steel.
The children took turns with the flint and steel.
Whilst we were waiting for the fire to heat up the children needed to work as a team, follow clues and find things hidden around the site.
Each team learnt facts about an animal they needed to find, they had to work out from the clues where the pictures of their animal would be.
Time to start cooking the popcorn.
The children knew that if the smoke was going in their face, to stand up, walk around behind the seats to another seat.
The popcorn was a big hit.
Time for some marshmallows.
The children needed to count up to 30 to allow their marshmallows to cool down before they ate them.
After the children had enjoyed their popcorn and marshmallows they worked in pairs to go on a treasure hunt.
When they had all the items they needed to find in their bag, they showed their friends what they had found.
They needed to find something round.
Something rough, something smooth.
Something that they think is beautiful.
Something that makes a noise.
