Friday 1st April

WOW! On Monday morning the children arrived into Apple Class with confusion and a little bit of shock.. Someone over the weekend had stolen our dinosaurs from the dinosaur box and made a right mess on the carpet! We followed the footprints which led to our garden, we then used the evidence to help us investigate and eventually we solved the crime! We spent all morning looking at the evidence to help us find our dinosaurs and bring them back into the classroom.

From this we discussed some key questions; What we think had happened? Why it might have happened?  Which door they came in from? Following this we realised that this is what Police Officers do for their job. This led our discussions for learning all about Police Officers.

Throughout the week we have spent quite a bit of time thinking about police officers - what they wear, what equipment they need and how they help us. Thank you to everyone who sent in police officer pictures - these are now up in Apple Class and the children loved showing them to their friends. We are looking forward to welcoming a police officer into Apple Class next week and we know that the children will be very interested and have lots of questions!

The children have enjoyed playing a rhyming bingo game this week. Rhyming is such an important phonic skill and it's very important for the children to be able to identify when words rhyme. If you were looking for a little Easter gift to buy your child, a game of rhyming dominos, bingo or matching pairs would be an excellent idea! For many of the children, they are beginning to hear rhymes but just need a little more practice.

On Thursday, we welcomed Sarah into Apple Class. Sarah helps lots of people in her job because she is a physiotherapist. Sarah told us that she helps people after they have broken a bone or hurt a muscle. She brought a fabulous bag of tricks in with her and we got to see some model bones and muscles, some x-ray pictures and we even got to have a go with some crutches and arm supports.  We learnt that when you've hurt yourself, you often need to have the help of a physiotherapist to get your bones and muscles working properly again. We loved having Sarah in to visit!

Today (on Friday) we had quite a 'snowy' start to our day! What a way to start our morning - full of excitement and fun, but by the time we decided to get into our snowsuits the snow decided to stop! Never the less we still had great fun into the afternoon - jumping in and out of the muddy, wet puddles. We had to thinking of rhyming words whilst playing outside. This was a fun game to play.

Next week is our last week of the term - we will be thinking about the Easter Story.

Have a fun weekend everyone - stay safe when travelling on the roads.
