Friends Meeting 16.11.17
Summary of Friends Meeting Thursday 16th Nov
We would like to thank the Parents and Teachers for attending the meeting. The meeting was very light-hearted with lots of laughs and a welcome glass of fizz!
The financial position of the Friends was outlined, last year there was an overspend of £1,393. It was stressed that the events held in the previous year had not made a loss, there was just more money spent than was raised. This is largely due to the fact that the school has expanded and there are more trips where we have funded the transport and more requests for items for school.
It was emphasised that to continue to fund things like transport costs we need to organise more events and raise money at every opportunity.
We agreed that the Freaky Friday disco had started a bit too early and many families experienced difficulties in arriving for 5pm. We are looking at starting the Infants Christmas Disco at 6pm on Friday 8th Dec – More details to be announced.
We are planning to hold an ‘unaccompanied’ Junior Disco for Years 4, 5 & 6 where parents can drop off and pick the children up, this would probably take place 7:30-8:30, again details to follow.
There will be a meeting for disco planning on Thursday 30th Nov at 2:15pm in school. If you would be able to lend at hand at either event, please come along to the meeting or email us firstname.lastname@example.org we will need lots of help and without volunteers we are unable to run these events so please, however small your contribution, it would be most welcome.
We will also be selling raffle tickets plus hopefully hot drinks and mince pies at Christmas Performances and would be grateful for help with that.
Things we are currently funding include:
- Welly storage boxes to be situated outside each classroom. These will keep wellies together, safe and most importantly keep the mud out of school!
- Christmas lunch for every child in school.
- A production company to come into school and put on a pantomime for the children.
- Transport to Sunderland for Years 5 &6 to see Matilda in the Spring.
- Outdoor playtime activity areas – raised beds with sand in for digging, sculptures etc.
We were planning to buy football strips for the school teams however a parent in attendance at the meeting, Stephen Whiting, has offered an extremely generous sponsorship from Bells & Sons in Alnwick which was gratefully accepted. This kind offer frees up Friends money for some of the other items on the school ‘wish list’ which includes more efficient storage units for packed lunch bags.
New ideas for fundraising included suggestions for
- Second-Hand book sale
- Curry & Quiz night
- Selection Box bingo – too late for this year but hopefully next year
- Willowburn fun day – Skate/Scooter rink, Soft play and Inflatable (8yrs +)
- 100 Club
- Film nights in school.
- Summer Family BBQ
- Gin tasting evening
If you have any further ideas or suggestions, please stop us in the playground, send us an email or a message via the Facebook page.
