Head Teacher's Blog 14.03.22
13th March 2022
We introduced our 3Cs in the February newsletter and we can happily report that the children, as we expected, are really taking these on board and thinking carefully about them as we explore what it means to be curious, caring and courageous. In this last week, the children have shown such maturity and care as they have come together to share their ideas and thoughts about how we can support our fellow human beings in Ukraine. Our bake sale will be on Friday 18th March at 3pm. Please send cakes in with the children on Friday morning and don’t forget to label tins/boxes so we can get them back to you. All cakes must be nut free and if your cakes are gluten/dairy free or vegan friendly, please can you label them as such. Cakes will be sold for 50p a piece. In addition to this, Friday is Comic Relief. All children are encouraged to ‘wear what they like’ and donations of £1 are welcomed. For hygiene reasons, please don’t send children with comic relief red noses. So, we look forward to having a bit of fun AND raising some money for two very worthwhile causes at the end of the week. In this spirit, our music is the second movement from Haydn’s symphony in G major. This movement is marked to be played ‘Andante’. There will be school 360 points for anyone who can tell Mrs G what this word means. In this piece of work, Haydn uses the sforzando, a single musical note or chord that comes in the middle of a quiet section of music to startle the listener. We wonder how many sforzandos you can count?
In further fundraising news, don't forget that we'll be holding our Friends of Swansfield AGM on the 28th March at 7pm in school. We really are in need of new volunteers to ensure the continuation of this valued group within our school community. Come along and get involved!
We are delighted that choir will begin again on Monday 14th March. Our Y1 and 2 singers who requested a place will meet at 3pm. Children will be dismissed via the main entrance at 3.45pm. Please wait for the children on The Cut.
Children from Maple class will begin swimming again from Tuesday and Chestnut children will now need to come to school in PE kit on Tuesdays.
We continue with telephone consultations this week for Apple, Beech, Maple and Rowan classes. If you haven’t booked in already, it’s not too late.
After a quiet couple of weeks, we once again saw a rise in Covid cases last week. Please can we ask you to be vigilant for symptoms and test. Thank you for your support with this.
Bye for now,
Mrs S and Mrs G
