Head Teacher's Blog 18.07.22

17th July 2022

Life is never dull and boring at Swansfield - just when we think we have a smooth, well planned run into the end of term we get another water leak! Thank you for your patience and understanding last Thursday.

We have checked the weather forecast and rearranged the infant sports day to Monday afternoon. We expect the weather to be hot but we are not subject to the red weather warning and having risk assessed the event we believe we can proceed with caution - please make sure that all children (and spectating adults) are wearing sun cream and a sun hat. Hydration is important and the children will be encouraged to drink throughout the event - a “hydration station” will be available for everyone. We will make the most of the shade under the trees and we encourage the spectators to do this as well and view the events from the outskirts. Please stand back and support the staff as they work with the children. If it becomes too hot, events will be shortened.  More generally, with the hot weather that is forecast, please be assured that classrooms will be well ventilated and blinds will be used to keep rooms cool. Can we ask that all children bring water bottles to school and we highly recommend that children have sun cream to apply during the day and a sun hat. We will keep a close eye on both the weather forecast and the warnings issued throughout the week.

There were lots of school trips last week, the year 4 children had a wonderful time at Ford Castle and experienced lots of exciting and challenging activities - thanks to Mr Warburton, Mrs Chambers, Miss Reilly, Mrs Sapor, Olivia and Matty for their support and hard work.

All our year 6 children enjoyed a Mudlarks beach day along with year 6 children from other local schools and started building wider friendships as their transition to high school approaches.

Continuing the adventurous theme the year 3 children went to Clarty Commandos at Howick Woods and had a great time.

As this is the last week of the school year we will be celebrating all our wonderful achievements.

A celebration assembly for children in reception through to year 4 will take place on Thursday afternoon at 2:30pm, parents of children who are receiving a certificate will be invited to attend.

On Friday we will be saying goodbye to our year 6 children and congratulating our year 5 children who have been appointed as our new Head Boy, Head Girl and Castle Captains in our Leavers and Achievers Assembly which begins at 2pm. All year 6 parents are invited, year 5 parents will be invited if your child is receiving an award. We kindly ask that no more than 2 adults per child attend these events.

Some of our musicians who have lessons with Mrs Nicklen have recorded a performance  - just click this link  http://www.swansfield.northumberland.sch.uk/website/enrichment_opportunities/454960

Please note that there will be no school based clubs or choir this week.

Well done to our stars who have impressed us this week, they are Frankie Francis, Wilfred Hughes, Louis Charlton, Jessica Angus, Evie Coxford,  Nicola Welch, Emily Davison, Callum Anderson and Issac Wilson.

With the summer holiday firmly on the horizon now, there's only one piece of music that we could choose for the week!  We hope you have a relaxing, fun filled time and we will be looking forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday 7th September.. Enjoy everyone!

Bye for now,

Mrs Smith and Mrs Grimes
