Head Teacher's Blog 22.11.21
22nd November 2021
We thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Children in Need on Friday and raised a whopping £427.60. Thank you to everyone who donated. The children and staff loved dressing in their sports gear and there was a fabulous buzz around school. LKS2 children did an amazing Mexican wave to add to the national effort from one end of the country to the other. The children had a wonderful time joining in with Joe Wickes and in addition to all the excitement, there were some calm and quiet mindfulness moments right across school. We felt so fortunate to have been visited by the BBC Newcastle Team and Pudsey was a great hit around school, especially with Mrs Grimes who is totally star struck!! Some of our senior students were interviewed for BBC Radio Newcastle - we have it on good authority that you can hear them if you 'listen again' at about 11.00am from Friday morning's show.
Well done to Henry McArdle who literally lit up the town when he switched on the Christmas Lights with the Duchess – it’s lovely to see the lights again as they brighten up the dark nights.
Following an increase in COVID cases we are introducing further measures where necessary and if your child’s class has been affected, you will have received a communication from school about this. We are working hard to put in place the measures that have been recommended so that we can contain this spike and keep everyone well and in school! Please remember to inform the office of the outcome of PCR tests and try to go in person rather than doing a postal test as you get the results quicker. Currently symptoms often appear to be like the common cold particularly in children.
Other events this week include:
A reading survey which will be coming out to parents of children in Reception and KS1. We’re keen to hear your feedback so that we can tailor our home/school reading provision.
Parents in Ash, Willow and Maple Classes will be having their telephone consultations.
Well done to our weekly stars, they are Amber L, Tristan W, Elanor T, Abbie C, Leah C, Katy R, Ollie D, Bea R, Daisy Mc, Chloe L, Georgie P and Isabel F.
As our American friends will be celebrating Thanksgiving on the 25th November, our music for this week is written by a very famous American composer, Aaron Copland. This piece is called ‘Simple Gifts’. It’s such a cheery upbeat piece, we love the sound of the sliding strings about halfway through. Can you hear them? The rousing finish with booming brass instruments can’t fail to impress. Happy listening!
An electronic certificate will be winging its way to you.
Bye for now
