Head Teacher's Blog 24.01.22
24th January 2022
It’s lovely to start this week’s blog by sharing some exciting news.
Over the past three weeks we’ve been busy in our school library. We have been working alongside Northumberland County Council librarian, Jackie Barnes, to refresh our stock and to ensure that our collections of books reflect diversity within our society. New carousels and kinder boxes have been bought to make more books accessible and appealing to the children and the Junior Librarian system has been updated. Our new Reading Leader apprentice, Kieran Phelan, is working within lower key stage 2 initially and will manage the library facilities, our next step will be to reintroduce the role of librarians. It’s wonderful to feel and see that our library is alive, relevant and accessible to all of our children.
Some wonderful work took place last week to mark World Religion Day. This ranged from our Apple Class children listening to the story of Noah’s Ark and building their own to our oldest children in UKS2 comparing and contrasting the beliefs of the major world religions. Thank you to Miss Back our RE subject leader for co-ordinating this work across school.
It seems ironic that just when the national restrictions are coming to an end we are facing some of our most challenging times. Currently we have 3 classes with outbreak plans in place, consequently we have had to cancel swimming for Maple class on Tuesday. Please continue to support us by following the restrictions and being vigilant for symptoms, testing and isolating when necessary. We will communicate directly with those in the affected classes in the week to let you know if these measures will continue or be lifted.
With Burns Night on the horizon this Tuesday, we thought this contemporary piece of music by Scottish musician Martyn Bennett would be enjoyable for all. The superb Scottish scenery in the video is stunning! Bennett was a piper, violinist, composer and producer. He sadly died in 2005 but his work lives on in pieces such as this.
This week we have been particularly impressed with – Joshua S, Poppy Mc, Emily H, Henry Mc, Will R, Charlie B, Ollie F, Amelia L, Isla B, Henry R and Isabel L - our stars of the week, well done everyone, an electronic certificate will be with you soon.
Bye for now
