Head Teacher's Blog 6.12.21

6th December 2021

We’re sure like us you are all looking forward to Christmas. In the meantime, we are trying to make it as festive as possible in school with the Christmas trees in the hall and classrooms brightening up the dark December days.

The Friends Window Trail has been created and they have nearly 20 windows across both local businesses and houses for you to go and search out! This was such a great event last year and as always, we are very thankful to the FOSP committee for all their efforts in organising events for our school community - even in these testing times!  You can pick a trail up from the School Office from Wednesday 8th December and the windows will be up until the end of term so there is plenty of time to go and have a look at them all.  It is only £2 to grab one of these great trails and you will be automatically entered into a prize draw.  There are 3 fab prizes; a Bauble Wreath courtesy of Northumberland Pom Poms, a Classic Wreath courtesy of Alnwick Gallery and a Chocolate wreath. The draw will take place on Thursday 16th December so make sure you pick your trail up before then!

We will be having our Christmas lunch on Wednesday 15th December.  Please let the office know if your child will NOT require a school Christmas lunch. This will also be Christmas party day. The children are welcome to come to school in their party clothes but please ensure that these are suitable for outdoor play and well ventilated classrooms. We’re hoping there may be a special visitor on this day too!  On Friday 17th December, we’ll be celebrating Christmas Jumper day and the children are welcome to wear their festive jumpers with their school uniform.

Here’s another piece of fabulous festive music for you to enjoy this week, Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson. Can you hear the bells keeping the beat all the way through? Have you got some bells or a shaker that you can use to join in?

We have some positive news on COVID front with the Public Health Team allowing us to lift the outbreak restrictions which we have had in place for the past two weeks. However, we must remain careful and vigilant so please ensure the whole family has a PCR when someone in your family tests positive on either a lateral flow or PCR test.

The children have been very resilient during COVID precautionary measures and coped well with reduced playtimes due to the school field being out of bounds while the mud dries up and the trees are declared safe.

We have noticed that a lot of children are not eating their lunch and a tremendous amount of food is being wasted each day. We are encouraging children to try! If your child has packed lunch, we will send any leftovers home so that you know what has been eaten. Please can you help us by talking to your child about the importance of eating their lunch.

Other things to note this week include:

  • Larch and Sycamore classes are both swimming this week

  • Music lessons will take place as usual

  • Guided Reading books and reading record books will be going home this week in LKS2, further information for UKS2 will follow in January. Please can children use their book bags rather than backpacks.

This week’s stars of the week are: Gracie F, Elbie R, Ruby H, Eryn A, Amelie J, Evie C, Shona G, William T, Jack F, Tommy C, Sam C and Tom A. An electronic certificate will be winging its way to you.
