Home Learning 20.04.20 - Week 3

Week 3 - Home Learning - Rowan Class Blog

Hello Rowan Class!

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful Easter and have nibbled your way through plenty of chocolate! It was lovely to see the sun starting to appear on a few occasions last week, let’s hope it continues to shine.

A big ‘Thank You’ to those of you that sent myself and Mrs Murdy l your creative writing tasks and Evolution research findings before the holidays. We were so impressed with the quality of work that we’ve created a Home Learning Gallery on the school website to share some of our favourite pieces. We will continue to add to the gallery during our school closure as a way of showcasing the fabulous work that you are all doing. When you have a spare 10 minutes, have a look at the great work that some of your friends have done so far! Maybe even drop them a message to tell that how much you liked it!

Each week within our class blogs, Mrs Murdy and I will continue to ask you to submit two of your Home Learning tasks. Not only does this enable us to monitor your learning and curriculum coverage, it also enables us to provide you with personalised feedback and subsequently support you to progress. When submitting work, as you’ll see in the Home Learning Gallery, this can be done through photographs, shared documents in School360 and even via email. Please just make sure that you use the correct email addresses, particularly for me as my email address contains the number one:

jacqueline.oconnell1@school360.co.uk

charlotte.murdy@school360.co.uk

In addition to the two submitted tasks, we will also continue to monitor everyone’s use of Times Table Rockstars as it’s important that you remain fluent in your recall of multiplication and division facts. Maybe next week we could organise a Rowan Vs Larch Battle of the Bands Competition!?!

Your Home Learning tasks this week include a selection of reading, writing and SPaG challenges for English. And for Maths, you have arithmetic, Big Maths, Schofield & Sims, TTRS and a few worksheet challenges. In addition to this, Mrs Murdy has also set you a St Georges Day Challenge (see details below) and I have set you a Humanities task linked to your work on the Tudors (see details below).

As mentioned in our previous blogs, make sure you work through your Home Learning tasks at a steady and manageable pace. If you haven already, try creating yourself a timetable like the one in the front of your planners to identify which of the tasks you are going to complete on which day?

Most importantly, if you need any help with ANY of your Home Learning tasks or have ANY queries, just send myself or Mrs Murdy an email using your school360 email account. We do enjoy hearing from you and we are always here to help!

Work to submit this week:

This week we would like you to submit your Big Maths answers and Humanities task by Monday 27th April. We will then provide each of you with some personal feedback and also identify your next steps. Please send your Big Maths sheets to Mrs Murdy and your Humanities work to Mrs O’Connell.

It would also be great to see your creative ideas and quality pieces of work for the St George’s Day task too, so any photographs or electronic pieces of work for the Home Learning Gallery would be much appreciated.

Remember to use a wide range of punctuation, vocabulary and sentence structures.

Humanities (From Mrs O’Connell):

When Henry VIII died, his son Edward became king. However, he was a sickly child and his reign did not last long. He was then succeeded by his sister, who became Queen Mary I. I would like you to research Queen Mary’s reign and then create something to show what you have discovered. It is entirely up to you how you present your findings, you could create a PowerPoint, a poster, a leaflet or even paint a portrait of her containing key items or images that will tell me about her reign. The more creative, the better!

** Please email a photograph / copy of your work to Mrs O’Connell

St Georges Day:

St George's Day, the patron saint day of England, falls each year on the 23rd April. To celebrate this special day this week, I would like you to read through the attached information and then chose one of the following activities to get creative with:

a)     Create a Fact File all about the life of St George

b)    Design and make some puppets to retell the story of St George and the Dragon to your family

c)     Create a poster to celebrate our British Values

d)    Design, label and even make (optional!) your own dragon or even a new suit of armour for St George

e)     Write a St George’s Day Poem

f)     Your own fabulous, creative idea...
