Moving Vehicles (Beech Class Y2)

Design

We were given a task of designing a model of a vehicle for a real-life hero or a superhero.
  • Our vehicles had to have a body.
  • Our vehicles had to have axles.
  • Our vehicles had to have wheels that allowed the vehicle to move.
We had to list the materials and tools we would need.
We also had to plan how we would decorate our vehicles.

Research & Technical Knowledge

As part of our research, Mr Johnson challenged us to make a mini rolling vehicle with two wheels and an axle. We were given dowelling, wheels and card, and could choose from a selection of other materials (such as pipe cleaners, tape, blu-tack and elastic bands) and tools (scissors, hole punches and rulers). While we were exploring, we discovered that we could either make the wheels move and have a fixed axle, or have a rotating axle with fixed wheels.
Making

After we had measured and marked our axles, we used a junior hacksaw to cut them to size.

If we had chosen to use a rotating axle, we had to use a mallet to attach the wheels.
After we had constructed our vehicles, we had to decorate them. You can see our products below.
