Overview

Every Monday, your child will be set one homework task which has a subject focus, for example, English, Maths, Science or that of another subject. They will have until the following Monday to complete the task.

As we move towards a more digital way of working and trying to reduce the number of items being transferred between home and school, the majority of your child’s homework will be accessed online through Google Classroom or through School360.   To use Google Classroom if you do not have it on your device you will need to download the Google Classroom app (It would also be worthwhile downloading the Google slides app as we will aim to use this too once we get used to working with Google classroom). Tasks will be based upon what the children have been learning in class in order to consolidate their new knowledge, skills and understanding. If your child has any difficulties accessing their homework online, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Spellings:

Spellings will also be set and tested each Monday. Your child will need to routinely practise their spellings online each week using a website called Spelling Frame (www.spellingframe.co.uk) rather than spelling books being transferred between school and home. Weekly spellings can also be found by clicking on the relevant Homework date below this page. Your child has been given their Spelling Frame username and password, again if you are having any difficulties logging on, please get in touch.

Reading:

Guided reading will take place on a weekly or fortnightly basis depending on groups and length or type of book being read. To maintain the integrity of the Maple bubble, Guided Reading will take place in the classroom under the direction of the class teacher. We will be keeping guided reading books in school and the children will read their set pages in class during quiet reading time and then discuss their reading in their groups.

As we know, reading is such an important life skill so it's important your child sets some time aside in their day to enjoy reading; whether it be by themselves, with an adult, to a pet or even reading to a favourite cuddly toy! We encourage children to read for at least one hour per week and reading can take so many forms - magazines, comics, newspapers, recipes, stories, non-fiction books... the list could go on! Listening to stories can be great fun too. 'Elevenses with the World of David Walliams' has some very funny stories to listen to.

Times Tables:

In Year 4 we focus on children being able to fluently recall all the times tables up to  12x12 ( the multiplications and related division facts). Children will be tested throughout the week using Times Tables Rockstars. They have a username and password to log onto the website (https://play.ttrockstars.com/) to help them practise at home and we will be setting some challenges.

***There are also games, activities and worksheets for all subjects available to help your child on our virtual learning platform, School 360 (https://school360.co.uk/login1/index.php). Some of the best can be found by clicking on Resources and then either j2e (which is very popular), Busy Things or IR (Interactive Resources).
