The Year 4 children from Chestnut and Maple class had the opportunity to visit Whittingham First School, where they took part in celebrations to mark the fifteenth paralympic games in Rio. All the children experienced what it was like to play 5-a-side football just like the visually impaired athletes do in the real games, and learned the history of the paralympics.
Four children from Swansfield Park were chosen to be Guardians of the Flame, and took part in a procession around the school field. The children chosen were selected because they embodied the paralympic values of courage, inspiration, equality, and determination.
After the celebration, our Chestnut and Maple joined together with Class 2 from Whittingham First School and competed in a mini cricket tournament with - in keeping with the paralympic spirit - the teams being mixed from both schools. Well done to the winning team, who each won a medal to commemorate their achievement!
