Reading in Beech Class.

Welcome to Beech Class reading page.  As well as telling you about what we are reading in Beech Class I would love to feature books reviews from the children telling us about their reading at home.
On a Thursday the children have time to visit the school library, choose a book and spend some time reading it in the library and in class. In their weekly reading groups the children read their phonically decodable books which are also taken home.
Every day we read some of our class reader (a chapter book) but we also read some picture books throughout the week and poetry both of which are often related to our theme for the term.
In May our class reader is Oscar and the Catastrophe by Alan Macdonald and prior to that The 13-Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths which has helped with our writing about treehouses in English.
Before the Easter holidays and alongside our topic on Africa  we read Akimbo and the Elephants by Alexander McCall Smith.
In February the children have been enjoying a story brought in by Claire called  The Day I Fell into a Fairytale.
We started the Spring term off with The Wombles by Elisabeth Beresford as part of our focus on Environmental stories and our topic Trash to Treasure.
Our class reader in November was  The Twits by Roald Dahl and in December it was  Magnificent Mabel by Ruth Quayle and The Christmasaurus by Tom Fletcher.

Beech Class Reader
Beech Class keeps a book review of our class reader.  We  share our thoughts on the book, vote  each book out of 5 stars and record some of our comments.
