Reception Home Learning Week Beg 29.6.20

Hello there and welcome back to another week.  I hope that everyone had a happy weekend and enjoyed the sunshine.

As always, it's really great to hear from you with all of the details of how you've got on during the week.  Mrs Grimes has loved seeing the pictures of our fabulous Plums hard work and the wonderful things that they produce. Keep them coming!  I do hope the children continue to enjoy seeing themselves in the Plum class photo gallery.

A big well done to Jacob who is this week's Star of the Week!

As is our usual routine, I've planned for three days of Read Write Inc, there is a maths activity for each day and some topic ideas to keep you going throughout the week. This week we are moving onto our new theme of 'jungles.' We are going to be doing some research into new 'wow words' so try and remember these words and their meanings.

Literacy

Same as previous weeks, I have attached 3 reading sheets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Let your child have a go at reading the sheets, you may need to help them sound out tricky words, especially with new sounds and then have a go at 'hold the sentence' at the bottom.

Thursday's Challenge:  For Thursday challenge, I'd like you to have a go at hearing and listening to the rhyming boo='Rumble in the Jungle' (a link to the book is below]). Next, I'd like you to hear the rhyming words and have a go at writing these down! How many rhyming words can you hear?

Friday Challenge:  Now I'd like you to think of as many jungle themed rhyming words as you can! You now need to use these words to write a very short poem or catchy rap!

(Grown ups - you may need to help your child with turning the rhyming words into a short poem or catchy rap!)

Mathematics

1:  First challenge is to use the snakes below, cut them out, measure them.

2: Put the snakes in order of length.

Extension task: Can you draw some snakes on your own and have a go at ordering those too.

3: If you've had a go at drawing some snakes for our first challenge, can you use these to create  repeating patterns on the back of them.

4: Now for our third challenge I'd like you to draw some jungle animals and create patterns on the back of them. You can draw zig-zags, swirls, stripes, dots to give you a few examples.

5:  For our next challenge I'd like you to produce a bar chart, this bar chart is going to show your family's favourite jungle animals!

Topic

1: As we are moving on to our new topic of 'Jungle' I'd like you to research one jungle animal and create a poster of this animal.

Things to research and include on your poster are:

*what's this animals habitat like? (where do they live - on land / in water)

*what does this animal eat? (diet)

*what country does it live in?

*what's this animals life span?

*tell me one really interesting fact about this animal

If you’d like a further challenge research more than one jungle animal and turn this into a fact file or book.

Please remember to add pictures, maps and other suitable findings to your poster. I’m really looking forward to seeing these!

2: For this challenge I'd like you create your own suitable habitat! A place where an animal lives is known as its habitat - try to remember this big wow word. Why do you think they would choose to live in these particular habitats - do you think they choose to live in these places?

Often some animals are camouflage. What does camouflage mean? Please research this and use it within your habitat.

3: Lastly, I'd like you to create a jungle themed rain stick (to do this, you can use a kitchen roll tube and some rice) I've attached a photo below.

Have lots of fun this week and I'm sure that Mrs Grimes will look forward to hearing from you!
