Summer 2-10.6.22

The first week back has flown by as usual and what a start to the half term. The children have had a great week learning about all things castles and the seaside.

Year 1 have taken on the learning of castles and reception, the seaside. We began the week by looking at local castles and seaside villages/towns. We talked about the ones we recognised and asked questions about the ones we hadn't seen before. We noticed several things and this led to lots of other learning throughout the week.

Year 1 spent the week learning about various features of a castle and learnt the vocabulary: drawbridge, portcullis, battlements, moat, tower and turret. We will continue to develop our vocabulary throughout this half term. We have really enjoyed building and designing castles this week.

Reception spent lots of time talking about their favourite trips to the beach and enjoyed expressing what they can see, hear and smell at the seaside through their own paintings. Later in the week we enjoyed doing some observational drawings of seaside finds.

As usual we spent some time practising our handwriting, developing the skill of finding the pulse, rhythm and beat in music. In PE this week we began practising team games for sports day. We started with simple running races and the most important message was that- it's okay to be last... It's all about the fun and taking part! It's also good to congratulate the winners. We will continue to practice various games as we prepare for sports day.

A very busy week in plum class as usual! Next week we will continue to develop our knowledge of castles and learn more about the motte and bailey design. Reception will be delving into the past to find out what seaside trips looked like.

I've noticed lots of children finding it difficult to come in (in the mornings) this week. Let me reassure you that once your children are in, they are happy and full of energy. I think lots of children are feeling tired after a busy half term and they always find it hard coming back to routine, especially in the morning.

Year 1- don't forget to bring in your junk materials by the end of next week.

Have a lovely weekend- Miss F
