Summer 2- 24.6.22

Hello everyone,

This week plum class have been busy bees.. what lovely weather we have had! It has been great to get out into our garden to spend time, gardening and learning through play. I hope you have noticed how lovely our plants and vegetables are looking! Thank you to everyone for remembering sun hats and water bottles. However, there are still some people without sun cream. It really is a sun trap in plum class garden so your child won't be able to stay out for very long if they haven't got cream on.

Anyway on with the week...

In year one this week we have been delving into the past to learn about life in a castle and what job roles people had. Including: servants, bakers, masons, blacksmiths, merchants, minstrels, carpenters etc. Can your child remember what these words mean? To help us understand more about their roles, we enjoyed listening to the story The castle the king built by Rebecca Colby and Tom Froese. The children then enjoyed writing their own captions to explain what those people did.

In reception, children have enjoyed listening to the story Winnie at the seaside by Korky Paul and Valerie Thomas. After reading, we thought about the things that happened during her trip to the seaside and what she might tell people if she was to write a postcard about her trip. Lots of us thought that it would be funny to tell people about her broomstick floating away in the sea! We had lots of fun writing our postcards from Winnie!

In our maths work this week, reception have been counting in 2's. Lots of us understood this concept easily but some us us will need to revisit this over the next few weeks. Maybe you could practice this at home.

In year 1 we have been counting in 5's. Lots of us found this difficult so please continue to practice this at home.

In other news... we have continued to practice for sports day this week and the children are becoming much more confident with the various races. We had lots of laughs practising our egg and spoon race this week!

We have been busy handwriting, reading, spelling and exploring changes in our garden! Lots of fun had by all!

Don't forget that we won't be at school on Monday 27th June for our chosen bank holiday.

Take care and have a restful weekend- Miss F
