UPDATED: NO FROG PLAY - Learning Week 4 & Photo Gallery: 27th of April - 4th of May

Home Learning for 27th of April - 4th of May:

Hi and welcome to this week's home learning. Firstly, I hope everyone remains well and that we are all staying as positive as is possible at this time. I also want to say a huge thank you for the response to last week's home learning. I have really enjoyed looking through all the work which has been emailed to me and happy to hear that the children are pleased with the feedback I've been giving on their work. It's lovely and very important to keep connected and you should all be very proud with yourselves for what you have achieved so far! I've also enjoyed hearing about the other activities you have all been doing to keep busy - lots of gardening, planting and baking going on. On that note, I have added an extra page called 'Willow wonders...?' A page designed for 'wondering' what each other's been up to. If the children would like to send any photos or videos of themselves chilling out, baking, gardening, playing, being funny, telling a joke, pulling a silly face, dancing, singing, or a photo of some art work...the list could go on, then email them through to me and I will do my best to get them all up on the 'Willow wonders...?' page. I will even aim to put something up at some point! Just so you all know, I will be a bit slow in responding and getting bits and bobs up onto the site this week as it is my turn to be in school. Rest assured, I will check in with emails daily but my responses this week will be shorter! However, if you have any queries about anything or you just need to pass on a message please email.
Again, I have marked the tasks which I would like emailed with a @ AND A MESSAGE
Stay well and keep smiling everyone : )

MATHS

ACTIVITY 1
This week we are going to focus on perimeter. We have looked at 'perimeter' before as part of Big Maths. 'Perimeter' is the distance around a 2D shape. In class, we have looked at calculating perimeter by adding the lengths of each side together and by using multiplication. For example, if a square has sides measuring 6cm then we know to multiply the 6cm by 4 as we know a square has 4 sides of equal length. I have added some powerpoints below to show you how different shapes have been measured and then the measurements added together to calculate the perimeter. Also attached are some 'Perimeter' worksheets for you to have a go at. Don't worry about printing off the sheets as you can write the answers on your own paper. Most of you are doing worksheet 1. If you are doing worksheet 2 I will email.

ACTIVITY 2
Now put what you have learned into practise! Can you measure the sides of 5 2D objects (or measure the faces of 3D objects) from around your house or garden and calculate the perimeter? For example, a coaster, face of a picture frame or the front cover of a book. Write the measurements of each side and then add them together to calculate the perimeter.

ACTIVITY 3
Complete your next 'Big Maths' Worksheet. If you have any queries about any of the questions, just email me and I can help out.

ACTIVITY 4
Complete a Times Tables Rockstars Sheet and even better...jump on to the Times Tables Rockstars website where you can practise online and complete the 10 Garage Bands Sessions.

ACTIVITY 5
Complete 2 pages from your Schoffield and Simms maths booklet.

ENGLISH
Activity 1 & 2 continue with our theme of the very funny book 'Mr Stink' by David Walliams.

ACTIVITY 1
Chloe's mum makes a list of policies that she would set if she were to become a Member of Parliament. What policies would you set to improve things where you live? See if you can come up with a list of 10!

 ACTIVITY 2
@ EMAIL THIS TO ME SO I CAN HAVE A GIGGLE AT THE FUNNY GOINGS ON IN YOUR MR STINK STORIES!
Imagine we are back at school. Mr Stink is your friend and you decide to bring him to school with you for the day! Write a story entitled 'Mr Stink's Day at Swansfield'. Think of all the things Mr Stink would get up to, what would he make of the lessons and the school dinners? I wonder what he would choose to eat at lunch time? Don't forget, wherever Mr Stink goes, his dog Duchess goes too! Where would we get Duchess to lie down in the classroom ? What could we turn into a basket or bed for Duchess. In your story I'll be looking for capital letters and punctuation used correctly. Give me as much detail and description as you can and have a go at using speech, which means you'll need to use speech marks and a new line for a new speaker. Feel free to type this story up and email it or write it, photograph it and email it to me instead. Below is a story starter. If you use this story starter, don't write it all out, just continue the story or you can write your own story starter.

''Bye Mum! I'm off to school now!'' I shouted, nearly tripping over Duchess as I stepped out the door. It was a warm, sunny morning and mum had decided that Mr Stink was responsible enough to walk me to school, especially as he was going to be spending the whole day with me anyway. We had bought Mr Stink a purple jumper especially and he wore it with pride. I wasn't sure what Mrs Smith would make of his muddy trousers and holey boots but it was only for one day.
''Come on! We can't be late!'' hollered Mr Stink as he grabbed my hand and started running up the street in the direction of the park beside our school. I'd never seen Duchess move so fast. Her poor little dog legs barely touched the ground as Mr Stink hurled us around the corner and we breathlessly made our way through the school gates. In no time, we were bursting through the classroom door. Mr Stink tripped on the door ledge and fell with a great big, smelly thud to the floor. I fell on top of him as my book bag and the Duchess went flying through the air towards some very worried looking faces...

ACTIVITY 3
READING ACTIVITY:
Reading is such an important life skill so it's crucial to set some time aside in your day to enjoy reading; whether it be by yourself, with an adult, your dog or even reading to a favourite cuddly toy! Reading can take so many forms - magazines, comics, newspapers, recipes, stories, non-fiction books... the list could go on! Listening to stories can be great fun too. I've been listening to more stories on 'Elevenses with the World of David Walliams'. As well as building up reading fluency, reading can help us learn more about the world we live in, stories take us to different places and imaginary worlds and whats more...reading makes you an even better writer!

This reading activity is based on whatever story book you are reading at the minute or have read recently.

COPY OUT 3 SENTENCES OR PHRASES FROM THE TEXT THAT YOU REALLY LIKE OR YOU FIND INTERESTING. EXPLAIN WHAT IT IS YOU LIKE ABOUT EACH SENTENCE OR PHRASE AND WHY.

I've also attached some inference picture cards and activities you can do.

ACTIVITY 4
I have added a Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar activity on Frog Play. Most of you will be doing the activity 'Inverted Commas for Speech', some will be doing 'Sentence Punctuation' but I will email those who are doing this activity. You could also do a page from your SPAG booklet which was sent home.
UNFORTUNATELY FROG PLAY IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE - SORRY!!

ACTIVITY 5
Spellings: Think about the spelling group you were in when at school. These are the spellings you are focusing on this week. As well as doing the 'look, say, cover, write, approach', why not write them in different colours, in different letter styles ( wobbly, bubble), small letters, big letter or why not time yourself to see how quickly you can write them all or how many times you can write one word in 30 seconds!

GEOGRAPHY
@EMAIL THIS TO ME SO I CAN SEE YOUR WICKED WATER CYCLES!
The water cycle:
This week we are going to look at the water cycle and how it works. Attached below is a powerpoint for you to look at and perhaps talk through with an adult. You will come across some tricky words such as condensation, evaporation and precipitation. Can you find out what these words mean? The water cycle is well explained on this BBC clip too:
I have also attached some worksheets you can print off and fill in if you are able to but you might want to create you own water cycle and label it. That would be much more fun! I've attached some photos to give you an idea of the sort of things you might try.
