Blog week ending 02/07/21

Well, these weeks are certainly rattling by and it's incredible to think that we've only got two more full weeks together in Pear.
We're determined to cram in as much learning and fun before we break up for the summer holiday.

In our RWI work this week, we focused upon our writing skills as we created our own spells, just like Stitch the Witch.  We are getting a lot more confident at leaving finger spaces and remembering to put a full stop at the end of our sentences.

In our number work, we've been sharing again this week.  We worked with coloured counters on an investigation.  With totals of either 6, 8 or 10 counters we explored whether we could make 2, 3, 4 or even 5 equal groups. This job allowed for some great explaining as Mrs Vicky and I asked the children to tell us each time what they had discovered.  It really is music to our ears and and eyes when we see a child deep in thought beginning a sentence with "Well, I've discovered that..."  Even better when you realise that they are using what they have already discovered to predict.  Maybe you could have a go at a similar investigation over the weekend.  And remember, the power of the activity lies in the conversations that go along with it.

Our topic work has been a bit smelly this week, but lots of fun!
We have been exploring rock pools and seashores and finding out about the life that can be found.  There has been a lot of opportunity to develop new vocabulary as we have looked at and talked about limpets, hermit crabs, cockles, razor clams, mussels, anemones, periwinkles, whelks and starfish.  The children were amazed to learnt that if a starfish loses a leg, it can grow a new one!  The children have made careful line drawings of shells and have compared them by identifying similarities and differences.  We have also had a fantastic time using modrock to mould and create our own rock pools.
In their free play, the children have enjoyed small world scenes with seaweed, shells, sand and lots of other additions.

Sports day was a real hit!  I hope you all enjoy the photos.
The children were not only keen to do their best and win but also showed great sporting attributes by cheering on their friends. Well done to everyone!

Looking forward to another great week next week.
In the meantime, have a happy and healthy weekend!
Sports Day fun!
