Aln Valley Railway visit

On Monday 2nd October we visited the Aln Valley Railway as part of our topic work looking at the history of travel and transport. The children had a fantastic time boarding a diesel Pacer train to take the short journey from the Lionheart station to Greenrigg Halt. From there, we walked back along the path next to the track to the Cawledge viaduct. Later in the morning we had a tour of the engine sheds - we were full of curiosity and questions! We loved seeing the old steam trains which reminded some of us of the Hogwarts Express from the Harry Potter films and we really enjoyed stepping aboard an old carriage complete with kitchen, toilet and lounge!
Thank you to the volunteers of the AVR who facilitated the visit and shared their knowledge and passion with us, and to the parent helpers too!
