I hope everyone has had a good weekend.
Thanks to those who have already responded to the Google form regarding Consultation. If you haven’t done this, please can I urge you to give us your thoughts. Can I also remind you all of the in person meeting which will be held at 5.30pm in school on the 16th May.
Thanks to Mr Warburton, Mrs Smith, Mr Fordham-Scott and all who came along to the Year 3 Fun with Numbers session last Thursday. We had some great parent feedback from this session and the children really enjoyed showing their skills!
Following the Year 6 residential meeting last Wednesday, where the children enjoyed hearing about the exciting activities they’ll be participating in while they are away, Mrs Murdy would like you all to know that the kit list and other important information is available on the school website under the Year 6 Residential 2024 tab on the home page.
Ash class gave a brilliant class assembly on Thursday afternoon linked to their learning on castles. The children’s enthusiasm and interest really shone through as they introduced us to the history and key features of castles. Their singing, speaking and acting were on point and all who came along enjoyed a great half hour!
Many of our KS2 children visited the town library last week and as they returned to school, it was lovely to hear them chatting animatedly to their friends about the books that had caught their attention. Larch, Sycamore and Willow now have some super new books on their shelves for everyone to enjoy!
You certainly get ‘all sorts’ in a week at Swansfield and on Friday, there was a real buzz based around Plum class as two lambs came to join the team for the day. Although the Plum class garden played host to our visitors, children from across EYFS and KS1 came to see our wooly friends as part of their science learning about living things. Many thanks to the Fordham-Scott family for facilitating this opportunity.

Chestnut and Rowan classes head to the library on Monday

Mr Warburton will host a meeting for the Y4 Ford residential in the school hall at 15.15 on Tuesday

Our final Fun with Numbers session, this time for Y4s, takes place on Thursday. If you haven’t already booked your place, please do so asap so we can set the hall up with the right number of tables and chairs. Nick will have the kettle on from 08.45 and the number fun will start at 09.15

Beech and Sycamore classes will head to St Michael’s primary school on Friday morning and afternoon respectively, to work alongside a visiting choir called The Joyful Company of Singers. Our school ceilidh band will also join Sycamore in the afternoon. The workshops will focus upon traditional Northumbrian music and will feature a song, written by local composer, John Casken, entitled Uncertain Sea. Children from Swansfield are warmly welcomed to listen to the choir at a concert at St Paul’s church, Sunday 5th May 19.00
We have a super collection of stars of the week to celebrate with - a huge well done goes to:
Jemima Blundell, Sophia Deen, Aria Hughes, Carlisle DeVilliers, Elsie Joyce, Luke Forsyth, Amy Davidson, Ruby Hollingworth, Ollie Donaldson, George Rose, Ollie Dennis, Reuben Herbst. We are very proud of you all!
Our whole school attendance this week was 95.7% and Larch, Oak and Chestnut share the top spot with 97.4% each.
I’ll finish this week with a couple of great opportunities that have been sent through to us. Firstly, children aged 7 and above are invited to join St Michael’s Church Children’s Choir. This begins on 1st May 15.30 - 16.15. This choir is led by Colette Boushell, who is a valued member of our music team, teaching piano and singing to many children across school. Please see the attached flier for further details. Secondly, follow the attached link to find out more information about a Get Girls Into Rugby event. This is on May 18th and comes highly recommended from a Swansfield family.
