Autumn 2 week 4 2023

This week has seen us further develop our knowledge of Diwali, thinking again about the story of Rama and Sita and why Diwali is an important ‘festival of light’ for Hindus.

We enjoyed making our very own Diva lamps using clay. We moulded them into a lamp shape, big enough to hold a tea light. Next week we will be having lots of fun continuing decorating our fabulous creations!

Our Read, Write Inc groups have been continuing with learning sounds and practising letter formation as well as hearing sounds in words.

In maths this week we have been learning about one more and one less in a play based context. We have been enjoying singing ‘five little speckled frogs’ and working out how many frogs there would be after each one jumped into the pool!

This week we have also been continuing to learn our songs for our Christmas performance- don’t forget to bring your child’s costume in to school as per the letter you received last week.

We had lots of fun today on our trip to Alnwick Baptist Church where we were met by the church team and had a look around church. We then enjoyed some brilliant songs and loved listening to the story of the Nativity told by Sarah!  In our RE lessons we have been learning about the Christmas story and how Christmas is very important to Christians as they think about the birth of Jesus, God’s son.

We were, of course, on our best behaviour throughout the trip and our adults were extremely proud of us indeed!

We are endeavouring to encourage independence in Pear class children in the mornings. Now that children have been in Pear class for almost a term, they are becoming more independent. You could help to encourage this by leaving your child at the Pear classroom outer door and allowing them to enter the classroom on their own where staff will be on hand to welcome and settle them into the morning routine.

Thanks very much to Scott's Mum who came in as secret reader this week- what a treat! There are still slots on Fridays if you would like to come and read a book to Pear class!

Have a lovely weekend,

The Pear class team
