Lunar New Year - 17.02.23

Having read several stories about Lunar New Year we decided to celebrate by decorating the yard with chalk drawings. This is currently one of our favourite activities. The children designed and drew their own dragons which were huge and covered half the yard ...
Inside we celebrated World Lego Day by pouring all our Lego into a tuff tray and then having a competition to see who could build the biggest dragon, the funniest dragon, etc. As well as, making play dough which we infused with a variety of spices common in Chinese cookery which we had great fun pounding with a pestle and mortar.

Lunar New Year culminates in a lantern festival. This year we decided to make lanterns as a group project which we would then use to decorate our room. We chose red, yellow and gold paint which we applied using a range of techniques. The trickiest part was stopping the lanterns from toppling over and blowing off around the yard so a lot if working together was required.
Once the lanterns had dried we decorated them further using stencils of Chinese characters. This was another collaborative task as it needs more than one person to hold the lantern steady while another person paints.
The finished lanterns are now hanging from the ceiling in TicToc.
