Satellite Workshop

Today, Larch Class had the opportunity to build upon their understanding of Earth and Space by  working with Mark Brown from NORSS. NORSS tracks satellites in space, so Mark was able to tell us all about natural and man-made satellites and how they orbit the Earth.

We were then given the task of designing our own satellite. We had to think about:
  • What was the job of the satellite?
  • What type of orbit does it need?
  • How did it pass information back to Earth?
  • How was it powered?
  • What was going to happen to the satellite when it had run out of power?
We were delighted to find out that some of the ideas we came up with are actually being tested by real space scientists!
