Another busy week for us in pear class and it's been a lovely one as we've continued to spend more time outside. Please can I ask that everyone brings a sun hat and sun cream to keep in school.

This week in our topic work we have built on our previous learning and have been sorting and classifying insects and minibeasts. We've looked carefully at their features and thought about ways to organise them. For example, wings and no wings. Or legs and no legs. We made lots of different comparisons and thought about why these features are important to these insects/minibeasts.

We've also been back outside in the garden this week hunting for insects and making mini beast homes. We've also had lots of fun planting flowers, strawberries and broad beans. We have all had a go at being busy gardeners and have applied our learning from previous week's by making sure to water them all. Next week we look forward to planting more produce!

In our RWI sessions this week we have spent time assessing the children's independent writing. It is so fantastic to see the level of progress made across the year. Now we know more about their ability independently, we can really target our learning next half term to ensure they are continuing to make progress and to prepare them for year one.

Likewise, in maths, we have been assessing the children's understanding within 10. The children have also made super progress in maths and we now know how to support each individual further. The main area of work we will continue with is composition of numbers within 10.

In PE, the children were very excited to practise their climbing on the jungle gym. It was great to see such confident climbers and well done to all of the children for following our rules to keep everyone safe when climbing.

We have been finding out about Muslims this week in our RE session and are beginning to recognise some religious words linked to Islam. We have been finding out about Muslim beliefs and looking at The Five Pillars of Islam. We considered that all religions have rules to live by and we thought about and represented with drawings some of the five pillars of Islam. We are enjoying finding out about other religions and beliefs this half term!

Our Charanga session saw us continuing to practice for our class assembly which is on Thursday 15th June at 2.30- please do come and join us if you can.

Also in our Charanga session we llistened and responded to Superstition by Stevie Wonder. We liked the upbeat tempo of the song, we played some rhythm games and enjoyed singing and doing some actions to The Wheels on the Bus and Baa Baa Black Sheep. We also played the glocks very well to The Big Bear Funk and shoo our egg shakers too! We got so very funky!

We enjoyed completing ‘Piece 5’ of our Jigsaw in our ‘Jigsaw’ session this week, which was focussed around ‘Falling Out and Bullying - Part 2’. Every week, as a started to our session, we enjoy a ‘Calm me’ time and this week we thought about how we can use Calm Me Time to manage our feelings. We thought about the feeling ‘angry’, and had a g at making some angry faces. We thought about whether or not there has been a time when we have felt angry and if we ever feel angry in the future; the things we could do to calm ourselves down, such as taking deep breaths and walking away. We also thought the idea of listening to calming music would help too. We are really good at practising how to deal with different emotions if we ever feel them in our lives!

Have a lovely weekend,
