Week 2 - Under the Sea

Week two and we decided it was time to embrace the rain - we even made rain shakers to summon it!
We read a Japanese story called Setsuko, about a little girl and a whale and discussed what we could do about the problem of plastic in the ocean. We then used art to recycled plastic tubs and bottles and made jellyfish and a bottle fish mobile to decorate our room. We also had great fun making paper fish and having a flappy fish race across the yard. It's harder than it looks - some people had flying fish!
When the sun did shine we explored the effect of sunlight shining through the water and tried (not particularly successfully) to make rainbows. The highlight of water week is always our annual water fight, which went ahead despite the threat of rain, everyone had lots of fun and ended up soaked. The children had a lot of fun trying to get their friends and staff with the water!
The children who did not want to join in the water fight or those who'd had enough could come up to a "calm water zone" where two tuff trays were filled with water and some water toys and scoops which they could play with and have a go of pouring the water back into the trays with very little mess.
