Week 3 - Visiting Diagon Alley

Welcome to Diagon Alley!
First stop for any young witch and wizard - buying your own wand and broom stick.
We made ours from sticks, string and wool and then had a hilarious afternoon racing up and down the hill on our broomsticks! We experimented with making our own magical pets too - the origami frog jumping competition was a big hit, possibly because most of the frogs were better at doing somersaults than hopping forward!
The sun shone most of this week so we were able to make our own magical shops outside on the field. First we decided which shops we would like - an ice cream shop and a magical sweet shop where our favourites. Then we collected cardboard boxes and made them into stands and counters complete with signs and menus. Rainbow ice-cream and chocolate flavoured pinecones were the most popular and everyone wanted a turn with the ice-cream scoop!
The magic shop and potion station began as a fabulous tepee den which the children had created under the trees, earlier in the week. It proved to be the best place for big vats of muddy potions that required lots of stirring in exchange for their magical powers and the magic shop did a roaring trade all week.
No visit to Diagon Alley is complete without a trip to the Owlery and the chance to send a postcard home by owl. We drew our messages and even experimented with invisible ink. Although some of our messages disappeared entirely we had great fun delivering them around the field and into the post-box.
We will definitely visit here again.
