Week 7- 16.12.22

What a fantastically festive week we have had this week!

We really do hope that you enjoyed the Christmas Nativity this week. The children worked so hard and we are incredibly proud of all of their efforts and well done to you parents also for the fabulous costumes!

Christmas is in full swing this week and we have been very busy creating some Christmas treats to share with you at home. We have also been reassessing the children so that we are able to re-group them for their RWI sessions in January. There is soooo much progress and many of us can now read and write!

Although the children have made so much progress across the board in their first term in Reception, most importantly we are beginning to see a confident, happy and enthusiastic bunch of learners in Pear Class - even if we are all a tad tired!

Later in the week we were delighted to have our trip to church this week! Sarah, Julie and all of the other lovely staff there made us feel very welcome indeed. When we arrived at church we spent some time exploring the different rooms and had fun finding out about the church building. We then went downstairs and listened to the Nativity story and sang some Christmas songs too! We were very sensible whilst walking to and from church and during the visit. We remembered we had to be very ‘respectful’ whilst in church and our teachers were very proud of us.

Our RE learning this week was talking about how we are all special and unique. We found out that God thinks we are all precious and we should treat each other well. We thought about some of the ways in which we look after our Pear class friends and we realised that we are all brilliant friends to each other and that we all have skills, talents and qualities that make us unique, as well as being valued members of the class.

In our ‘Charanga’ music session this week, we have been consolidating our learning from this half term. We have all begun to learn lots and lots of new songs, nursery rhymes and action rhymes and so this week we enjoyed adding some instruments as we sang along! We tried very hard to keep the beat with glockenspiels and enjoyed performing our very own pieces of music too!

Our Jigsaw session saw us all talking about and reflecting on what we have found out this half term- about ourselves, our family and our homes. We really have found out lots about ourselves and our friends too!

P.E was great fun as we used the apparatus. We remembered how important it is to keep ourselves and others safe during P.E sessions. We showed that we could wait our turn, move safely and land carefully whilst using the apparatus. We really enjoyed using the benches, boxes, hoops and mats to create our very own sequence of movements. We even really enjoyed the challenge of adding a dance to our movements in between using the different apparatus.

We have really enjoyed getting stuck into our reading sessions this half term and have enjoyed reading to an adult in school. Books will be collected in for the Christmas holidays next week. Please ensure your child returns reading books and library books by Tuesday.

Please ensure your child has a full set of spare clothes for their peg, even if they are usually dry and independent at toileting. At this time of year, children can get a bit wet during our outdoor playtimes and we are running very low on spares to give out. Spare clothes for pegs do not need to be uniform, just anything that will be warm and dry for your child should they need them.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Pear class team
