Y1 Home Learning - Week Beg 8.6.20

Hello Lovely Y1 Friends

Mrs Young here!  Thank you to those of you who have sent me super work over last week.  I feel very welcome in the Y1 fold Here is your home learning for this week.  Please ask your Mums and Dads to contact me to tell me how you’re getting on or to send photos of your lovely work.  They can email me at:

           susan.young1@school360.co.uk

I’m afraid I won’t be able to reply quickly as I’m working in school this week but I will respond as quickly as I can.

English

* I have attached Read, Write, Inc lessons for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  I know some of you are following the daily lessons on You Tube which are great for practising sounds and word building skills but I thought the children would benefit from applying this sound work a bit more. Please feel free to do both or either.  The link for the daily lessons is:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ

It's 10.00am for Mrs Vicky, Mr Rose and Mrs Grimes’s group and 10.30am for Mrs Snowdon's group.

Don't forget that the RWI sounds packs that you got from Mrs G at parent consultation meetings will be really handy for going over sounds and green words.

* Handwriting - Curly Caterpillars

This week’s, handwriting is all about curly caterpillar letters.

The curly caterpillar letters are:

a, c, d, e, f, g, o, q and s.

Here’s a short video to remind you how to form curly caterpillar letters correctly:

BBC Bitesize - How to write curly caterpillar letters

Now, there are lots of ways of practising forming letters correctly, as well as with a pencil and paper. Here are a few (you’ll need to check with a grown up first before trying some of these):

  • Grab a paintbrush and a bucket of water and write them on the ground or wall.
  • Melt some chocolate and spread a thin layer on a tray, then write the letters in the chocolate (make sure you’ve washed your hands really well first). Try not to lick your fingers until you’ve finished!
  • Squirt a little shaving foam into a washing-up bowl and use your finger to write the letters in the foam (don’t lick your fingers after this one).
  • Draw big curly caterpillar letters then draw little curly caterpillars inside them.
  • Have a go at the handwriting practice worksheet I’ve put below to print (if you can’t print it just copy it onto paper)

For all of these activities, try to remember to form the letters correctly!

* Watch my video telling the story of The Emperor’s New Clothes.  What a silly man!  It is such a good story though.  I would like you to retell the story in your own words.  I have some pictures to help you remember what happens (I’ve attached them below)

When you retell the story make sure you:

  • Write 2 sentences OR MORE about each picture.
  • Use finger spaces.
  • Use full stops and capital letters

Maths

This week we are going to carry on practising counting up to 100.

* Watch the video at:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z8sfr82/articles/zw4g2nb

Try and have a go at the tasks below the video too.

* Now let’s practise counting with some real objects.  Find 100 objects in your house or garden like:

  • Lego bits,
  • Buttons,
  • Leaves,
  • Grapes,
  • Bits of paper,
  • Fingerprints,
  • Beads,
  • Cubes, or whatever!

Put them into tens to count them easier.

(If 100 is a bit tricky, then find 30.  Or 50)

* Print “Count to 100 Snail” below (if you can’t print then do your own).  Colour each part and count each as you colour them.  For a bit of a challenge draw on the numbers.

* Play a board game which has numbers on, for example, snakes and ladders (if you don’t have one at home I have attached one below or make one yourself!)  As you land on the squares, say what the numbers are.

* Have a go at the worksheet below called “Counting to 100”.  If you can’t print it, just copy it instead.

Topic

* Do you remember the story I told in the video about the silly Emperor?  Well afterwards he said:

I must not be made a fool of again!

I must make sure I have the right clothes

For whatever time of year it is.

                You need to help me!

Do you know the 4 parts of the year are called seasons.  Can you name them?  They are:

  • Spring
  • Summer
  • Autumn
  • Winter

Watch this video on BBC Bitesize to find out what each season is like, then have a go at the activities:

      https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zkvv4wx/articles/zcx3gk7

* Make a poster to show what the seasons are like.  You can draw pictures or make lists or write sentences or make models to show what happens in each season.

* Choose a season then design a some clothes for the Emperor to wear for that season.

* If you want an extra activity to do, draw yourself somewhere in Alnwick in a particular season.  Could you be playing in the fountains at Alnwick Garden during the summer?  Or sledging down the school field in the winter?  The choice is yours but I want to be able to tell what season it is by the weather, clothes, plants and animals I can see on your picture.

Hope you all have fun with these activities.  Remember to ask your Mums and Dads to email me with some of your work.
