Head Teacher's Blog 11.09.23

10th September 2023

We had a super start to the new school year - all of the children came back in great spirits and as I visited classrooms, children were keen and eager to cracking with their learning. Already this year I have had the pleasure of chatting with Ayva in Year 3 about her amazing handwriting and Joseph in Year 2 about the very elaborate dragon he had made after listening to the story of The Paper Bag Princess. I’m looking forward to seeing whose amazing work I see next week.

Looking forward to the week ahead:

  • Oak, Ash and Beech classes will be taking a short walk to see the vegetable patch at Roots and Shoots, Alnwick Gardens on Monday. Please remember to send children with a water bottle and a rain coat!
  • Swimming begins again on Tuesday, Rowan and Larch class will be visiting the pool this half term.

  • NUF (Newcastle United Foundation) coaches are back in school on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning this week. Please refer to PE letters sent out last week and children should come to school in PE kit on days when they have a PE lesson.

  • Larch class will be visiting the town library this week on Wednesday and Thursday

The children looked really smart in their school uniform last week. Thank you for adhering to our uniform policy. Please can all parents ensure that children do not come to school with earrings.

As you know, we use our school field all year round, it’s really helpful if children have a pair of  wellies/old trainers to keep in school for using at playtimes and lunchtimes when necessary. This helps to keep our carpets and children’s trousers/tights/socks clean!

I hope that everyone enjoyed reading the school and class newsletters last week. There were some really important dates within these documents - don’t forget to pop a copy on your fridge or to put the dates in your diary so you don’t miss anything.

Speaking of important dates, our music this week comes from The Pearl of Africa Choir - they epitomise music that you can dance to! We are looking forward to welcoming the new choir to our school on Friday 22nd September as they begin their 3 month UK tour. Tickets for their evening concert at St Paul’s church (6.30pm) are £5 per adult and children go free. Tickets will be available from the school office from Tuesday morning.

Don’t forget to send me your ‘music that you can dance to’ . I have a great ‘number’ for next week from Libby in Year 3.

Have a great week,

Mrs G
