Head Teacher's Blog 11th July 2022

10th July 2022

Well the sunny weather arrived right on time for our summer events last week.

Thanks to our new Friends Committee who organised a wonderful Summer Fair on Saturday, it was well attended, delightful to see so many families enjoying themselves and great to catch up with so many generations of our Swansfield Community. We look forward to getting the grand total to you early in the week. We'll also be getting in touch with the raffle winners who weren't there to collect their prizes at the end of the fair.

The Junior Sports Day was won by Warkworth Castle (5899 points) followed by Dunstanburgh Castle (5811 points), Bamburgh Castle (5416 points) and Alnwick Castle (5110 points). The children’s enthusiasm and their willingness to have a go was impressive. We are looking forward to the infant sports day on Thursday afternoon - hopefully the good weather holds! Spectators are very welcome to bring chairs or rugs to make the afternoon a little more comfortable.

Other events to look forward to this week are:

  • The Year 4 residential sets off on Wednesday for a 2 night stay at Ford Castle, please can you drop the children off at the hall (access via the steps by the office) at 8:30 am.

  • Year 3 are experiencing Clarty Commandos at Howick Woods, the children have been split into 2 groups and will be going on either Wednesday or Thursday.

  • Year 6 Mudlarks trips which are an important part of the transition to secondary school take place on Wednesday (Larch) and Thursday (Rowan).

The Commonwealth Games are taking place this summer in Birmingham, from the 28th July until 8th August. As part of the celebration for this event, the Queen’s Baton Relay will be coming to Alnwick on 15th July and Oak Class will be going to cheer the Baton on its way. More information about the Baton Relay and the Commonwealth Games can be found on their website: https://www.birmingham2022.com/power/schools/educational-resources.

With the feel of summer in the air, we've got the perfect music. As the children listen to this song, we'll be encouraging the younger children to pick out the verses and choruses in the structure and for an added challenge, we'll be getting our older friends to identify the bridge section.  Enjoy - this one is a classic!
