Head Teachers' Blog 13.02.23

12th February 2023

Last week ended on a high note with our much loved Valentines Discos, these were well attended and enjoyed by all. Thanks as always to the Friends for giving so much time and effort to organise these events.

Things to remember this week are:

  • Chestnut class assembly is on Thursday at 2:30pm

  • School closes for half term on Thursday as Friday is a training day.

There are a few important things on the horizon just after half term so here’s the heads up…

  • It is World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March, further information will be sent out later this week.

  • Please be aware that the NEU are planning another day of strike action on Tuesday 28th February. Hopefully we’ll be able to staff a partial opening similar to the previous strike day with places allocated for children with additional needs, those entitled to free school meals and those of critical workers.

  • Parent consultations are scheduled for the first couple of weeks after half term - please keep an eye out for the sign up details.

Please can we remind you that it’s only fruit and vegetables to be brought in as a snack at playtimes.

With all the colds and sickness bugs going around at the moment it is hardly surprising that the whole school attendance is slightly below target at 94.9%. Hopefully we’ll get back on track after half term. Oak class are this week’s top attenders with 98.8%.

Whilst working in the office last week, we were distracted by the wonderful sound of our school ceilidh band rehearsing next door to us. The music was so enticing that we had to get closer for a listen! The band were playing Egan’s Polka with so much confidence and musicality. We look forward to finding opportunities for them to share their music with you all. In the meantime, here is a set of fast and furious polkas (including Egan’s) to enjoy. We listened to a polka earlier this half term, can any one remember how many beats in a bar?

As always, we had some stand out stars from the last week, they were: Ella Routledge, Cora McCarthy, Elsie Pattinson-Brooks, Niamh Holland, Poppy McMullen, Lexi Adamson, Vincent Spence, Bea Rose, Lily Mallaburn, Charlie Jepson and Sophia Eddy  - well done to you all .

Finally we have a shout out for our retiring lunchtime crew: Chloe, Imogen, Ryelle, Alyssa, Catherine and Addy who have been brilliant at supporting the younger children and congratulations to our newly recruited Year 6 Lunchtime Crew who be helping in the hall next half term: Alice Bridges, Emily Davison, Lola-Belle Roulston, Thomas Lee, Amy Evans, Lexie Scott, and Riley Wightman

Enjoy half term see you on Monday 27th February.

Bye for now,

Mrs S and Mrs G
