Head Teachers' Blog 14th November

14th November 2022

Writing this blog each week helps us to reflect on the broad variety of opportunities and experience provided for our children. Last week alone the LKS2 children visited Alnwick Library, they explored the range of books available and became members so that they could borrow books. Throughout school we celebrated World Science Day with some fantastic work investigating autumn, plants, and forces. There was an “eggcellent” investigation using eggshells to replicate our teeth and looking at the effect of sugar on them. On Remembrance Day the children observed a 2 minute silence and laid a wreath as a mark of respect. Thank you to everyone who supported the Poppy Appeal and well done to Isabel and Luke for selling all the merchandise.

Looking ahead here is a breakdown of  many more exciting events:

  • On Monday we are celebrating Odd Sock Day to highlight Anti-bullying week. The theme this year is to reach out and we are encouraging children to ask for help as well as offer support to others.

  • KS1children are looking forward to their visit to the Playhouse on Tuesday to see The Hungry Caterpillar. Thank you to FOSP for supporting this event.

  • We have two author visits to look forward to. Alistair Chisholm will be working with our UKS2 children on Tuesday while Kristina Stephenson will be inspiring the KS1 classes on Wednesday. Children have the opportunity to pre-order books.

  • Friday is definitely the busiest day of the week, we are fundraising for Children in Need by having a non uniform day / wear your PJs for £1. In the evening the Market Place is the setting for the Christmas Light switch on and the Friends Christmas Fair in the Town Hall - if you can help with this event please let the Friends know as they desperately need more help. They would also be very grateful for cakes to sell on Friday evening. Please bring them to school on Friday at the start of the day.

Please note that Sycamore Class are now swimming on Tuesday afternoons. Those in Larch Class should now come to school in their outdoor PE kits on a Tuesday.

We continue to monitor school attendance and this week it is slightly below our target at 95.8% with Larch Class setting a great example achieving 99.1% attendance - well done.

With Anti-Bullying as our theme for the week, our music comes from Andy and the Oddsocks - enjoy!
