Head Teachers' Blog 21st November

20th November 2022

What a day we had on Friday! The children enjoyed all the fund raising activities for Children in Need during the school day followed by the excitement of the Christmas Lights switch on in the Market Place. Once again The Friends organised a fabulous Christmas Fair in the Town Hall to coincide with the Christmas Lights and capitalised on the footfall. Thank you to all the helpers and for all your kind donations and support. We will let you know how much has been raised for both events as soon as the figures are available.

This week we have the following events to look forward to:

  • Maple Class are going to Segedunum as part of their Roman Topic on Thursday

  • Also on Thursday is Larch Class Assembly at 2:30pm

  • On Friday Larch and Sycamore Classes are off to The Great North Museum to find out more about the Ancient Egyptians and to consolidate their scientific knowledge about space.

To support our LKS2 children in their learning about the Romans, we’ve added an old favourite for our music this week - The Evil Emperor song from Horrible Histories. UKS2 children, have a think about what you can remember from your Roman learning. To our younger friends, maybe this song will inspire you to find out a little bit about the Romans. That’ll give you a great head start for when you get to Y3 and 4!

Last week we were particularly impressed with the efforts of: Ada Telfer, Brogan Richardson, Penny Tate, Arran Crow, Bonnie McHale, Jessica Angus, Ollie Ross, Ollie Findler, William Beresford and Jake Baxter - our stars of the week, well done everyone.

This week's whole school attendance is 95.7% - we’re watching this figure very closely as it is slipping gradually. This can be partially explained by the usual winter illnesses but please ensure that your child gets into school, yet again Larch class are the top bananas achieving 97.6% attendance.
