Head Teacher's Blog 22.05.23

21st May 2023

Hoping that everyone has enjoyed the lovely sunny weather this weekend.  It’s a good forecast for the week so please ensure that all children have water bottles with them in school please each day. Sunhats and sunscreen are also a good idea - it can get very warm on the yards and field, particularly at lunchtimes.

Thank you to everyone who walked to school last week. I thoroughly enjoyed being out every morning giving away smileys. So many families that I met commented on increased safety on The Avenue without cars driving up and down and turning. Please help us keep this up by continuing to park away from The Avenue. I know that there were also many walkers from the Swansfield Park direction. I was delighted to hear that so many children completed their charts and earned a bookmark at the end of the week. Thank you to Mr Rose, our travel plan co-ordinator, who organised our Walk to School.

As we look forward to the coming week there are a few events to make a note of:

  • On Tuesday afternoon, a group of UKS2 children will be joining in with a football competition at St Michael’s Primary School. Children will be back at school from 3.00pm We’ll look forward to letting you know how team Swansfield got on!

  • On Wednesday afternoon, a group of children from Rec-Year 2 will be heading to Lilidorei for the press opening of this exciting new facility. Thank you to Miss Freeman for organising this event and taking our children. Again, we’ll look forward to sharing news of this visit with you.

  • On Wednesday evening at 5.00pm we’ll be holding a parents’ meeting for our Year 6 residential. Mrs Murdy and Miss Back have lots of information to share about this exciting forthcoming trip.

Thank you to everyone who has begun to follow us on Twitter. If you haven’t done this already, you can find us here: @SwansfieldPS

After achieving a great 95% last week, our attendance has taken a little dip and stood at 94.9% on Friday. Beech Class were our best attenders with 99.7%. I’m sure we can get at least one 100% attendance class this week. That can be our challenge!

Well done to our stars of the week: Haigan Potter, Billy Gray, Frankie Turnbull, Eliza Telfer, Danielle Neville, Niamh Claxton, Emmie Keenan, Kye Mattison and Thomas Goodfellow. Certificates will be presented in achievement assemblies throughout the week.

Our music this week comes courtesy of The Beetles - Here Comes the Sun. This song is taken from their famous Abbey Road album. Can you find and listen to another Beetles song from this album? Smileys for anyone who lets me know what they discover!

Don’t forget that we break up for our half term holiday on Friday. The Tic Toc holiday programme will be with you early in the week. The first blog of the new half term will be with you on Sunday 4th June.

See you in the week,

Mrs G
