Head Teacher's Blog 4.10.21

3rd October 2021

As the term progresses we are working hard to sort out a few teething problems and things seem to be resolving.

Swimming worked like a dream this week with the new changing regime and extra staffing – a big thank you to Sarah Syers for accompanying the children to and from the pool.

Please remember that we are reintroducing an end of day stagger to help ease the congestion around the Park Gate. We would be grateful if you arrive on time to collect your children and leave the site swiftly. If this arrangement poses any difficulties for your family please let us know and we will try to be as flexible as possible.

In case you missed the email on Friday here is the new collection schedule:

14:55 - Sycamore and Willow

15:00 - Rowan and Chestnut

15:05 - Maple and Larch

As part of our risk assessment we are ventilating the classrooms, however we ran into a problem when it began to rain as this closes the skylights in the new classrooms which means that we are having to leave the doors ajar. As we move into the winter this will mean that warm clothing will be essential. With this in mind we have added a few fleecy extras to the school uniform – please have a look on the website.

Next week we will be celebrating our Harvest Festival; please remember to bring in any donations by Monday 12th October, Alnwick Food Bank are in need of the following: Bags for Life, tinned beans, tinned soup, tinned fish, tinned tomatoes, tinned peas, tinned fruit, tinned rice pudding, tinned meat, milk pudding, pasta, pasta sauce, shampoo, shower gel, toothpaste, toiletries and soap.

Once again our KS2 children rose to the Sumdog challenge and did a fabulous job last week competing against other schools in Northumberland to answer as many online maths questions as they could. Rowan Class were the Swansfield Champions, closely followed by Chestnut. A special mention must go to Freya Flanighan and Lacee Coxford who both finished in the Top Ten 10 students - Congratulations girls and well done to those of you that took part.

Well done to our weekly stars, they are Elsie P-B, Niamh H, Arran C,

Jaxon M, Oscar Mc, Wilfred P, Alice W, Jessie H, Alex D,

Ollie B, Fred M-J and Freya F. An electronic certificate will be winging its way to you.

And finally some good news – we have won the Northumbria in Bloom Gold award for our gorgeous school grounds, credit goes to all our green fingered teaching assistants for their hard work with the children.

Bye for now,

Mrs Smith and Mrs Grimes
