Week 1st June blog

Hello Cherries

Hope all is well and you have had a good half term. Good job on the minibeast hotels guys, absolutely brilliant. Very impressed!

So this week is going to be a bit of a messy one but will keep our Cherries entertained. I thought Cherries would love to do some science experiments at home. I tried to choose experiments with bits and bobs that parents would have at home so fingers crossed.

Monday: A great activity to learn colours and learn how to mix colours.  Colour mixing with ice cubes. Using food colouring and prepare different coloured ice cubes. Set them in the freezer overnight. Next morning mix up the cubes in clear cups and see what colours you can make. Use slightly warm water. Pictures below for example.

Tuesday: Sink or float experiment, fill a bucket, bowl whatever you can find with water - choose things with your little one to see if it will sink or float. If you're feeling braver after the experiment, put the toys/objects into piles of those that sink and float. Good luck!

Wednesday: Making rain – get a clear cup or bowl - fill with water and squirt shaving foam on top of the water - allow the children to drop some food colouring onto the shaving foam and watch and wait for the rain to fall through the clouds.

Thursday: Using a large bowl add water and cooking oil and lastly drops of food colouring.  Observe how the food colouring doesn't mix with the water. Get some cups, spoons, measuring cups and allow the children to explore.

Friday: Make your own instrument - you can get as creative as you want with this. See what junk you have lying around and what you can use to create different sounds - loud, quiet, high pitch or low pitch noise.

Pictures are attached to help!

Have fun Cherries and can't wait to hear all of your feedback. Stay safe,

Claire
