Head Teacher's Blog 23.10.23

22nd October 2023

Well, last week certainly had an autumnal feel with harvest festivals, halloween discos and a bit of stormy weather just to keep it really lively!!

Thank you to everyone who came along to watch our harvest festivals - the children performed brilliantly and enjoyed sharing their work with you all. Thank you also for the generous donations to Alnwick Food Bank which we delivered on Thursday morning thanks to parent volunteers who give their time so generously. Let’s Get Cooking club chopped and prepared vegetables on Thursday afternoon and made some lovely vegetable soup which we’ve frozen and look forward to sharing with the Elderberries when they visit us on Friday morning.

Thank you also to the wonderful Friends of Swansfield who organised two brilliant discos for our children on Friday evening. I think everyone who came along enjoyed themselves. I look forward to bringing you a total for money raised in the week. The pumpkins brought in for the competition at the end of the week were all amazing and I know that Fraser and Isabelle had a really tricky job picking winners from each class. Here is the list of the triumphant pumpkin carvers and decorators:

Apple Class - Sid Raine

Pear Class - Quinn Miller

Plum Class - Ffion Read

Oak Class - Billy Gray

Ash Class - Elbie Raine

Beech Class - Karina Krzeminska

Willow Class - Isla Pagett

Chestnut Class - Evelyn Baker

Maple Class - Phoebe Plum Beere

Sycamore Class - Sophia Tutleman

Rowan Class - Freya McNee

Larch Class Hallie Welsh

We were really fortunate to receive some free tickets for a performance of Michael Morpurgo’s I Believe In Unicorns on Friday afternoon and LKS2 had a much-enjoyed impromptu afternoon out. I chatted with a few children as they came back and the consensus was that it was ‘AMAZING!’.

Our whole school attendance was 94.8% last week and Ash Class were our best attenders with 98.7%. Well done Ash, let’s see if we can get a 100% class next week!

So, let’s take a look at the upcoming week which is shaping up to be another busy one:

  • LKS2 are heading back out on Monday, this time to Beamish. Please remember to wrap up warm, bring a waterproof and a packed  lunch (unless you have ordered one from school). Please also remember that the children are leaving at 8.00am. We’ll keep in touch about the estimated return time.

  • Rowan and Larch will be swimming on Tuesday and are reminded to bring PJs for a water safety session.

  • Friends of Swansfield warmly invite you all to join them for a coffee (and possibly a pastry too!) on Thursday morning at 08.45 to find out about their fundraising plans for the year and how you can support. Remember that without volunteers, this group cannot continue their great work.  Please meet at the Park Gate.

  • UKS2 are heading out, on the final trip of the half term, to Cragside on Thursday. Again, please wrap up warm, bring waterproofs and packed lunches (unless you have ordered one from school).

Let’s move on now to our Stars of the Week - these children have dazzled and amazed their teachers this week with their achievements and hard work. A huge well done to: Sid Raine, Albie Conroy, Chayce Horne-Smith, Brooke Wilcox, Danny Phelan, Ameliar Lamb, Danielle Neville and Marshall Duffil. We are very proud of you all!

Our music this week is an EYFS firm favourite and I’m sure it will get you all dancing on these chilly mornings. Enjoy!

See you in the week and wishing you all a happy half term break when it comes on Friday.

I’ll be back with a blog for our first week back on Sunday 5th November and I look forward to seeing all the children bright eyed and bushy tailed on Monday 6th November.
