Head Teacher's Blog 02.05.23

30th April 2023

Hoping that everyone is enjoying the Bank Holiday weekend - the weather may not be on our side but it’s certainly a treat to have an extra day!

Can I begin by thanking everyone who has passed on good wishes following my appointment last week. I’m excited to get started on this new chapter for our great school.

I’d also like to say a huge thank you to Willow class and Mrs Smith. This talented lot  entertained us with an amazing assembly on Wednesday all about the Lambton Worm and genuinely blew me away with their kind words for the start of my headship. I will always remember this special assembly. Thanks also have to go to Ritchie Newbegin for leading the singing of the Lambton Worm - such a memorable experience for our children!

Looking forward to next week, our Coronation celebrations are taking shape. We’ll be celebrating in school on Friday and here are the things to remember:

  • Come along ready to celebrate in red, white, blue or your favourite party clothes. Please note that if you have PE on this day, clothes must be suitable for sporting activities and can we kindly ask that children don’t wear football strips.

  • Children will be taking part in a Coronation Conga on the school field.

  • Children will be having a special Coronation party lunch. If you want your child to have a school dinner on this day, please be sure that you’ve completed the Google Form to select a sandwich filling.

  • Selected members of our community from local care homes will be coming to join us for a Coronation Coffee morning and choir will entertain our guests.

  • Don’t forget to bring your Coronation planters or outdoor decorations to school by Wednesday 3rd May. Prizes will be awarded to winning entries from each Key Stage.

Please remember that strike action will affect the opening of some classes on Tuesday 2nd May. The following classes will only be open to invited groups and children of critical workers:

  • Apple Class

  • Pear Class

  • Plum Class

  • Ash Class

  • Oak Class

  • Beech Class

As always, we have had some stand out stars this week. A huge well done to: Robin Ghent, Lily Arkless, Beatrix Patten, Chayce Horne-Smith, Casey Parker, Vincent Spence, Alice Armstrong and Elliot Chapman. Certificates will be presented in achievement assemblies and wing their way home.

As we look forward to the Coronation, here is a piece of music called Orb and Sceptre by William Walton. This piece was composed for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Can you find out what the Orb and Sceptre are? Which section of the orchestra starts this rather regal sounding piece? Answers to these questions will win smileys! I’m really looking forward to listening to the new pieces of music that have been commissioned for King Charles III’s Coronation and I’ll hopefully include one of these next week.

Let’s have a great week.

See you on Tuesday morning,
