week 6- 10.12.21

Christmas festivities have begun in plum class this week and we've had lots of fun! We have been busy making Christmas cards, calendars, decorations and decorating our Christmas folders ready to take home next week. We have listened to lots of festive music to get us in the spirit!

In our topic work, year 1 friends have been thinking more about the story of christmas and have enjoyed drawing a scene from the Nativity and writing a sentence to go with it. Reading and writing is at the heart of everything we do and so allowing opportunity for writing through our topic learning is so important. Children are working really hard to sound out the words but need lots of prompt to use finger spaces and full stops in their sentences. Maybe you could work on this at home when your child is busy writing.

In RWI, reception learnt their last sound of set one on Monday (nk). Now that we have learnt our last sound we will be focusing heavily on blending (pushing through sounds together to read words) and decoding (sounding out to help us writing).  Most children are more confident with blending. Keep practicing sounding out and  writing down simple cvc words as much as possible.

In our mathematical work, reception friends have been busy working out one more/one less than numbers within ten. We are all pretty confident with this now, well done everyone.

Year 1 have been learning more about the bar model and how they can show the number bonds to 10 using this pictorial representation. They did a fantastic job!

On Thursday, reception took a visit to the post office to deliver their Santa letters. Year 1 really enjoyed this trip last year when they were in reception and so they were excited to hear all about the trip as we arrived back at school. We walked along together as a group and in small groups we had a look inside the post office before posting our letter. We were very excited. Fingers crossed Santa gives us a reply!

In other news, we have been busy developing our ball skills in PE, developing our understanding of pulse and pitch in music time and we have been so busy developing our fine motor skills everyday by cutting and sticking to make Christmas crafts.

Next week we will be continuing our Christmas celebrations. Wednesday is Christmas lunch and party day. Please come dressed in your best party outfits (with sensible shoes for the outdoors). On Friday it is Christmas jumper day with school uniform on the bottom half.

1 week to go everybody, keep uo the good work! Miss F
