Reception Home Learning Week Beg 22.6.20

Hello Plums and their families! I hope you have all have a very enjoyable week! Thank you for all the lovely photos and updates! I really do enjoy reading and looking at what you have been up to. Remember to take a look at them all on our pear class gallery. Remember the work I set is just a guide; don’t feel you have to complete everything and children work at different rates and have different up and down days so don’t worry if others seem to be working at a faster or slower rate, the important thing is to work at your child’s pace.  They are all different.  If you feel they haven’t fully understood something, feel free to go over the activity again or something similar.

As you have probably realised from Mrs Smith’s email that Home Learning organisation is changing slightly in school.  I will be continuing to plan the home learning but could you now email Mrs Grimes with your lovely photos of your children’s work or with any queries?  Obviously, if you have any specific queries about the activities I’ll be more than happy to deal with these questions.

A big well done to Ella Rose who is this week's Star of the Week!

This week we are still on our theme 'seasides.' I have some exciting jobs for you to do this week and again another video for you to enjoy.

Literacy

Same as previous weeks, I have attached 3 reading sheets for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Let your child have a go at reading the sheets, you may need to help them sound out tricky words, especially with new sounds and then have a go at 'hold the sentence' at the bottom.

Now that we have finished all of the set 2 sounds, its just practising these sounds. Recognising them in words and using them whilst reading and writing.

This week we will be bringing our 'seaside' theme to a close. We will still be using our story 'Winnie the Witch at the Seaside!' as a stimuli for our Thursday and Friday creative literacy work.

Winnie the Witch at the Seaside is on a link for you to watch below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2NwWipGGMA

Thursday's challenge is to watch the story ending of Winnie the Witch. Then I'd like you to produce your own comic strip for the whole story! This is a good way to discuss key points in the story, the problem, the solution and when these events occur in the story. Are they at the beginning, middle or end of the story?

Friday's challenge is to create your own story about Winnie the Witch.

What does she look like in your story? Has she changed?

What does she like to do?

Where is the story based? (jungle, school, space etc)

What adventure does she go on? (tell me an exciting adventure)

What’s the problem in the story?

How does she solve this?

Does she need any friends to help her solve this?

Remember to use your sounds and finger spaces to write your words. Use your wonderful art skills to bring your vision of Winnie the Witch to life.

Here are some additional questions for mummy and daddy to ask you:

Is Winnie still the main character?

Have you introduced any new characters?

Mathematics

1: For your first challenge I'd like you to make your own boat, but you must use shapes! How many shapes are you going to use on your boat? Have you used 2d or 3d shapes or both? Will you make your boat large or small?

2: Second challenge is to write down a list of the shapes you have used.

3:  Whilst making the boat we need to use some mathematical language  'heavy, light, heaviest, lightest.' You can also begin to compare objects by using their weight ' this is heavier than this'' or this is lighter than this.'  These are words we use when talking about weight. Can you add so many objects to your boat, that it sinks? Ho many animals or figures can you add onto your boat without it sinking?

Topic

1:  Now that you've made your own boat for our mathematics learning, I'd like you to go back and think of the materials you have used. For this challenge we are investigating the materials! Can you make a waterproof boat. Can you investigate different materials and choose the best ones to make a waterproof boat? Try using natural materials first. Are natural materials waterproof?

2: I'd now like you to make some predictions - before you test your boat for real! Which materials do you think will be waterproof? Which boat will sink and which will float?

3: Once you've made your boat with different materials, made your predictions, I'd then like you to test it out! Investigate the different materials you have used, floating and sinking by using your own boats and test out your ideas.

4: For Thursday's challenge we are going to get our bodies moving! I'd like you to move like seaside/sea animals/mammals. Who can walk sideways like a crab? Who can flip and jump up high like a dolphin? Who can swim/wiggle fast like a fish? Once you've had some fun doing this, can grown ups use positional language (under, over, on top, behind, in front, next to, beside)

5: Our final challenge of the week is to make your own seaside scene. This is a time to let your imagination and creative skills run wild! What will you use? What will be on your seaside scene? You can use sand, shells, driftwood, Will you have a bucket or a spade, an ice cream shop on it somewhere? Will you be on the picture?

Have a lovely week! I hope your enjoy the challenges.
