Home learning Week Beginning 11th January

I hope you're all safe and well. Thank you to everyone who got in touch last week. It was lovely to hear your news.
I'm going to be working in school this week with some Cherry and Apple friends so I might not be able to answer your emails straight away but I'll try to get back to you when I can. If it's important, you can message Mrs Grimes on:

In the meantime, here are a few jobs to get on with this week...
Monday:
The boys and girls in school are going to be working and playing with the story Whatever Next by Jill Murphy. Today's job is to listen to this story and then have a chat about it with your grown up. Grown ups - you can ask some questions such as:
Where did the bear go?
What did the bear take?
Who did the bear see on the way?
Stories are a great way to build and use new vocabulary and to move from communicating in single words to using short phrases.
Tuesday:
Have another listen to the story. What details can your little one remember?
Today, I'd like the Cherries to work with their grown up to make their own rocket to go on an adventure. Maybe you've got a box you can use or maybe you'll use the cushions from your sofa. Once it's made... off you go! I'd love to see some pictures.
Wednesday:
What would be a good snack to take to the moon? Work with your grown up to prepare some fruit or make a sandwich. Once you're ready, you could go on another adventure in your rocket and have a picnic on the way. Grown ups - preparing food is a great life skill and provides a super opportunity for lots of quality talk. It also gives you the opportunity to slip in some counting! If you're cutting up fruit, how many pieces are there? Model some careful counting to your little one.
Thursday:
Let's get the crayons, pencils or paint out today. Don't forget to encourage a good tripod grip of mark-making implements (that's thumb and 1st two fingers around the crayon or pencil). Maybe you'll draw the moon, maybe you'll draw rockets or maybe your little one will have ideas of their own. If you're feeling really crafty, you could get out some scissors and add some twinkly stars!
Friday:
The boys and girls in school have been making instruments this week. Can you have a look around your kitchen and find some items that might make a twinkly sound? You can watch Mrs Grimes' video for a few ideas. Then sing along on the music video. If you enjoy this song together, have a go at some other nursery rhymes. Nursery rhymes are a great way to build speech and communication skills.
